Bag valve mask (BVM) resuscitators deliver a push of air with each squeeze of the bag to ventilate people through their nose and mouth. Also known as manual pulmonary resuscitators (MPR), they consist of a self-inflating bag, a face mask, a one-way valve, and a port to connect tubing to a supply of oxygen.

Non-rebreather masks (NRM) maintain a tight seal around the nose and mouth to supply the highest concentrations of oxygen. Their one-way valve blocks outside air from entering the mask to prevent dilution of the oxygen.
