Non-contact transponder-coded safety switches use RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology to verify an actuator's proximity to a safety switch without physical contact. These switches and actuators are installed on opposite sides of a door or gate, allowing current to power a hazardous process. When the door or gate is opened, the current is interrupted and stops the process to protect personnel from injury. Applications include industrial machinery, automated production equipment, pharmaceutical, and chemical processing. These switches are more resistant to tampering than regular locking gate boxes.
