Drag Shield Cutting uses a drag shield cap that maintains a constant standoff distance between the workpiece and torch tip during cutting. This method is suitable for plasma cutting applications on metal that is more than 1/4" thick.
Drag Tip Cutting does not require the operator to maintain a standoff between the workpiece and the plasma torch tip, which improves cutting accuracy and reduces blowback and spatter compared to standoff cutting when cutting metal that is less than 1/4" thick.
Gouging uses a gouging shield cap that maintains a constant standoff distance between the tip and the workpiece and is suitable for gouging applications where the workpiece is only partially penetrated to remove material from its surface.
Standoff Cutting uses a shield cup that maintains between 1/8" to 1/4" standoff distance between the workpiece and the torch tip. This method is suitable for plasma cutting applications on metal that is more than 1/4" thick and typically allows for faster travel speeds and higher amperages than drag shield cutting.
Extended Cutting indicates the torch consumables are long and narrow, making them suitable for plasma cutting applications in tight spaces or hard-to-access areas such as corners, channels, close edges, and flanges.
Fine Feature Cutting indicates the consumables produce a narrow kerf with a stiff arc, making them suitable for cutting thin material, making highly detailed cuts, cutting intricate shapes, or cutting applications that require very tight tolerances.
