Tool Steel TIG Welding Rods
Available21 products
Tool steel TIG (tungsten inert gas) rods provide filler metal for welding tool steel. Also known as TIG cut lengths, they are most often used for repairing, resurfacing, or altering dies and tools and creating cutting edges or work areas on parts made from mild carbon steel, medium carbon steel, or low-alloy steel. The rods are fed into the weld joint to add material for building up the weld. The heat from the GTAW (gas tungsten arc welding) process melts material from the rod and the workpiece, and the molten material fuses to create the weld.
A2 TIG Welding Rods
A2 TIG rods are suitable for welding A2 air-hardening tool steel in repair applications where a complete heat-treatment cycle will be used. They create heat-treatable, forgeable welds that resist severe abrasion, moderate impact, cracks, and wear. A2 TIG rods are commonly used for welding trim steels, piercing punches, flanges, and forming dies.

H12 TIG Welding Rods
H12 TIG rods are suitable for welding H series hot-work tool steel. They create chromium-tungsten-molybdenum (CrWMo) welds that are heat-treatable and provide excellent resistance to chipping. They are commonly used for repairing damaged tools and dies, particularly in applications where the welds must be annealed to facilitate machining and rehardening.

H13 TIG Welding Rods
H13 TIG rods are suitable for welding H13 tool steel. They do not contain tungsten. These rods create homogenous, nonporous, dense welds that can be rehardened and annealed. They are commonly used for repairing damaged tools and dies.

S7 TIG Welding Rods
S7 TIG rods are suitable for welding S7 tool steel. They create dense, shock-resistant welds that will be subject to medium-hot and cold working or metal-to-metal wear. These welding rods are used for welding surfaces to correct engineering changes, damaged areas, or machining errors.
