Impact socket retaining rings and pins are used to secure impact sockets to impact drive tools when tightening and loosening fasteners. They help keep the impact sockets from coming off the end of the impact wrench drive due to vibration during operation. Impact sockets have a through hole to accept the retaining pin and have a groove for the retaining ring that holds the retaining pin in place. A crush gauge on the retaining pin indicates when sockets are worn and need to be replaced.
