Track saws are used when more accurate cuts are needed than those achieved when cutting along a sight line. They are circular saws with a base designed to fit in a grooved track. The track is secured to a wide or long workpiece, such as a piece of plywood or other sheet goods, and the saw is guided by the tracks to create a straight cut. Cordless track saws are battery-operated so they don't have cords to tangle or pull on the edge of a workpiece. Corded track saws have more power than cordless saws and can be used for extended periods of time without running out of power.
