Pipe freezing and thawing equipment allows repair of water pipes without shutting off the water or draining the lines. The freezing units form ice plugs that block flow, and the thawing units melt ice plugs to restore flow. Pipe freezing and thawing equipment is commonly used when changing valves and sprinkler heads.
Pipe Freezing Units
Pipe freezing units clamp their freeze heads onto copper or steel water pipe and use their compressor to circulate refrigerant within the heads and solidify water in the pipe. They maintain the ice plug to stop water flow until the unit is turned off. Their refrigerant stays contained in the freeze heads, so there's no need to release and replenish refrigerant after operating the unit. These units are not for use on plastic pipe.

Pipe Freezing Kits
Pipe freezing kits include freeze jackets and canned refrigerant to form ice plugs in copper, steel, and plastic water pipe. They operate in areas without access to a power source. Their freeze jackets wrap around the pipe and fill with refrigerant to solidify water in the pipe. The refrigerant is released from the jackets after use.
