Tool batteries provide power to cordless tools. They are used to equip bare tools with a battery, change to a different battery series, or replace batteries that are damaged or no longer hold a charge. Tool batteries can be used with tools of the same brand, battery series, and voltage. Voltage describes the level of power the battery provides. Tools with lower-voltage batteries are lighter and more compact but less powerful than tools with higher-voltage batteries. Batteries of the same voltage and series are usually available with different amp-hour ratings. Amp-hours (Ah) describes the amount of power the battery holds (its capacity), which determines how long a fully charged battery can perform before needing a recharge. The higher the Ah rating of the battery, the greater its storage capacity. As voltage and Ah ratings increase, so do the weight and bulk of the battery and the tool it powers.

DEWALT Cordless Tool Batteries
These tool batteries fit DEWALT cordless tools of a compatible platform and matching voltage. For example, a 20V MAX* battery works with 20V MAX*, MAX* XR, and Atomic tools. MAX XR* batteries are premium batteries with more capacity than standard MAX* batteries. MAX* Compact batteries provide the runtime of standard MAX* batteries in a lighter, slimmer form. FLEXVOLT batteries fit 20V MAX*, 60V MAX* and 120V MAX* tools (which require two FLEXVOLT batteries). They automatically switch voltage to match the power of the tool they are paired with, and they provide extended run time for 20V tools. The battery capacity listed for FLEXVOLT batteries is the amp-hour (Ah) rating when operating at 20V. This capacity is reduced when operating at 60V. Batteries of the same voltage, platform, and series may be available in different Ah ratings. Batteries with higher Ah ratings have greater power storage capacity but are heavier than those with lower Ah ratings.

Makita Cordless Tool Batteries
These tool batteries fit Makita cordless tools of the same voltage and series. For example, a 12V CXT battery will work with a 12V CXT tool and an 18V LXT battery will work with an 18V LXT tool. 18V X2 (36V) LXT tools operate on two 18V LXT batteries. Batteries of the same voltage and series may be available in different amp-hour (Ah) ratings. Batteries with higher Ah ratings have greater power storage capacity but are heavier than those with lower Ah ratings.

Bosch Cordless Tool Batteries
These tool batteries fit Bosch cordless tools of the same voltage and a compatible series. For example, a 12V Max battery will fit Bosch 12V Max tools and an 18V Max, CORE, or SlimPack battery will fit any series of Bosch 18V Li-Ion tools. CORE series batteries provide longer run times and more power than Max and SlimPack series batteries. SlimPack series batteries have more power than Max series batteries and are lighter and more compact to help make large tools easier to handle. Batteries of the same voltage and series may be available in different amp-hour (Ah) ratings. Batteries with higher Ah ratings have greater power storage capacity but are heavier than those with lower Ah ratings.
