Inch and metric tape measures provide two systems of measurement on their blade. Their inch scale is numbered at each inch increment and marked with plain lines for graduations in between to measure in feet, inches, and fractions of an inch. Their metric scale is numbered at each centimeter and marked with plain lines for the millimeter graduations in between to measure in meters, centimeters, and millimeters. The inch (also known as English or imperial) scale is the most common standard of measurement in the USA while metric is the international standard of measurement.
