Folding rulers consist of multiple blades that fold out on hinges to measure greater lengths than single-blade rulers. Also known as zigzag or mason's folding rulers, they fold their blades back in to a more compact size for storage and transport. They also work as straight edges to draw and check straight lines. Positioning the blades at angles allows marking right angles, drawing parallel lines, and sighting buildings and structures to gauge their angles.
