Box, I-Beam & Torpedo Levels
Available55 products
Box, I-beam, and torpedo levels set their flat base against surfaces and indicate in spirit-filled bubble vials whether surfaces are horizontally even (level) and vertically straight (plumb). An air pocket moves within each vial to take a reading and will settle in the center if a surface is level or plumb. Their frame resists impacts and protects the vials from damage.
Vial Shape
Standard Box Levels
Standard box levels have a long frame with flat ends and square edges that provide better protection of the spirit vials, greater durability, and more resistance to twisting and bending than I-beam levels. Their frame length allows more accurate readings across longer distances than the shorter frame of torpedo levels.

Magnetic Box Levels
Magnetic box levels stick to steel, cast iron, and other ferrous metal surfaces to provide readings while keeping hands free to reposition components and materials. They are commonly used when leveling metal pipe, ducts, studs, doors, windows, and shelves. Their frame is long with flat ends and square edges that provide better protection of the spirit vials, greater durability, and more resistance to twisting and bending than the flanged frame of I-beam levels. Its length allows more accurate readings across longer distances than shorter frame of torpedo levels.

Standard I-Beam Levels
Standard I-beam levels have a long, flanged frame that makes them lighter and easier to grip than box levels. Their frame length allows more accurate readings across longer distances than the shorter frame of torpedo levels.

Magnetic Torpedo Levels
Magnetic torpedo levels stick to steel, cast iron, and other ferrous metal surfaces to provide readings while keeping hands free to reposition components and materials. They are commonly used by plumbers and electricians when leveling metal pipe and conduit. Their frame is short with tapered ends to take readings in spaces that are too small for box and I-beam levels. Its compact size also allows storing in tool boxes and tool bags for transport and protection.
