Compact liquid-in-glass pocket thermometers are filled with nontoxic liquid that reacts to changes in temperatures. As the temperature fluctuates, the fluid in the glass is raised or lowered. The temperature is then recorded with the measurement graduations on the outside of the glass. These thermometers are portable and commonly used for field studies, waste-water treatment measurement, and for taking general temperature readings.
