Standard LED stroboscopes use light-emitting diodes (LED) to create short light pulses at specific frequencies. They can be adjusted to illuminate many rotational speeds and have extended lifespans due to their LED technology.

High-output LED (light-emitting diode) stroboscopes feature higher-intensity LEDs than standard stroboscopes. They combine the efficiency and long life of LED technology with the high output normally achieved using xenon or neon bulbs.

Standard xenon stroboscopes use xenon-filled bulbs and a high-voltage arc to create rapid, evenly timed pulses of light. Unlike LEDs, these lights have ramp-up and ramp-down in their brightness due to their method of operation.

Stroboscopes with tachometer mode feature an integrated laser and laser sensor that reflects off the rotating component and provides a precise RPM (rotations per minute) measurement. This allows the stroboscope to automatically detect and sync with the speed of the part as it fluctuates.
