Digital and mechanical timers count down specific lengths of time and alert the user that the set duration has passed. Digital timers use batteries and have an LCD screen to display time. Select units have multiple timers for tracking different tasks or processes. Mechanical timers track a single task and do not require an outside power source.
Digital Timers
Digital timers use a battery-powered timing circuit and an LCD to track and display a countdown timer. While they are not sensitive to temperature like mechanical timers, they require a battery or other power source to operate.

Mechanical Timers
Mechanical timers use springs, escapements, and gearing to track time and count down a set duration of time. They are used for short times of less than an hour and feature integrated relays that can temporarily power equipment for the duration of the timer.
