Straight-body hydrant gate valves create a linear media flow path to minimize pressure drops and ensure efficient flow. These use a gate to control water flow. Lowering the gate into the flow path stops the water from exiting the valve while raising the gate allows the water to flow freely through the valve body.

Angle-body hydrant gate valves have inlet and outlet ports perpendicular to each other and act as an elbow to change the direction of media flow. These valves have a gate within the housing that stops and starts water flow.
