Gasket Material

EPDM (ethylene propylene diene monomer) is a synthetic rubber that resists chemicals, steam, and water.
FKM (fluoroelastomer) is resistant to oils, chemicals, and corrosive fluids.
Buna-N (nitrile) is a synthetic rubber that is compressible and resists oil, water, and mild chemicals.
PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) resists heat, chemicals, and friction.
Silicone is a flexible synthetic rubber that is electrically insulating and withstands a wide range of temperatures, including high heat.
PTFE/316L Stainless Steel is a blend of PTFE and 316L stainless steel for enhanced protection against leaks in steam applications.

Outside Diameter Style

Standard indicates the outside diameter of the gasket is a single material with no outer layer.
Envelope indicates the outside diameter of the gasket is encased in an outer layer of PTFE for more resistance to chemicals and high pressures.

Thickness

The thickness of the gasket measured in inches. Thinner gaskets handle higher compression stress but require a more finished flange surface. Thicker gaskets help fill surface irregularities and absorb vibration, but allow more room for leaks to permeate and may require retightening. As a general rule, the thinnest gasket possible should be selected to fit the needs of the application.
