Socket x Spigot Schedule DWV Pipe Fittings
Socket x spigot fittings include a socket (hub or slip) end that fits over a pipe and a spigot (also known as street) end that fits inside a socket. The spigot end is needed when a fitting connects to another fitting. These fittings require glue or adhesive to secure the connection. DWV fittings are not for use in high-pressure applications.

Spigot x Threaded Schedule DWV Pipe Fittings
Spigot x threaded fittings include one spigot (or street) end and one threaded end. A spigot end connects to another fitting and requires solvent cement to seal connection. Female threads are on the inside of a fitting. Male threads are on the outside of a fitting and screw into the female threads. Threaded connections use PTFE tape to secure seal. DWV fittings are not for use in high-pressure applications.

Socket x Threaded Schedule 40 DWV Pipe Fittings
These fittings include one socket (hub or slip) end and one threaded end. Socket ends require glue or adhesive to secure connection. Female threads are on the inside of a fitting. Male threads are on the outside of a fitting and screw into the female threads. Threaded connections include NPT (National Pipe Thread) or BSPT (British Standard Pipe Taper), and use PTFE tape to secure seal. Pressure-rated fittings have a numbered schedule rating. The higher schedule number indicates a thicker, stronger wall to handle higher pressures. Schedule 40 fittings have thinner walls than Schedule 80.

Socket Schedule 40 DWV Flanges
Socket Schedule 40 flanges slip over pipe and secure using solvent cement. There are two types of socket, or slip, flanges. One-piece flanges are solid molded parts and when glued to pipe cannot be turned. The Van Stone flange is two pieces with a rotating ring to make bolt alignment simple. This flange has one female threaded end that connects to a male threaded fitting or nipple. Schedule 40 flanges have thinner walls and are not recommended for high-pressure applications.
