Platform counting bench scales have a large platform for weighing more items and larger packages than compact counting scales. These scales can also be used to count the number of items being weighed by sampling an individual item and calculating the total quantity. The LCD and LED display is located above the scale on an extended removable neck pole.

Compact counting bench scales can measure both the weight of items to be shipped and the total number of parts to be shipped. A sample of one item is used to calculate the entire quantity of items. An LCD and LED display is located on the front of the scale, rather than on the extended neck included with platform scales.
