Micrograin Carbide

Micrograin carbide is formed by cementing, or sintering fine carbide particles together with a binder, such as cobalt. During the process, the binder is heated to a molten liquid, while the carbide grains remain in the solid stage.

As a result, micrograin carbide offers the hardness of carbide without its brittle tendencies. The ductile nature of the binder helps to prevent chipping or breaking. It also helps withstand high temperatures and cutting speeds.

Depending on the size of the micrograin particles, and the material used as a binder, micrograin carbide can be formed in different grades to provide specific properties. C2 is typically harder and more dense than C5.
