Spiral-Point STI Taps
Available335 products
Spiral-point STI (screw-thread insert) taps have straight flutes with a spiral point that pushes chips in front of the tap as it moves into a hole and out the other side, eventually forcing the chips out of the hole. They are used for creating oversize internal threads in through holes so a helical-coil screw-thread insert can be installed in the hole. The insert distributes the load across the length of the threads and improves the threads' strength when a fastener with a standard screw thread size is installed in the hole.
Bright-Finish High-Speed Steel Spiral-Point STI Taps
The bright finish on these taps provides a smooth, polished surface. High-speed steel taps provide good wear resistance in general purpose tapping applications in a range of materials.

TiCN-Coated Powdered-Metal Spiral-Point STI Taps
The TiCN coating on these taps protects them from wear and is harder and more wear-resistant than a TiN coating. These taps are made from powdered metal, which has a uniform microstructure and grain distribution that gives the material a similar strength as carbide. Powdered-metal taps are tougher and less likely to break than cobalt and high-speed steel taps.

Bright Finish Cobalt Spiral-Point STI Taps
The bright finish on these taps provides a smooth, polished surface. Cobalt taps are harder and provide more wear resistance when tapping hard materials at high speeds than high-speed steel taps.

Black-Oxide Powdered Metal Spiral-Point STI Taps
The black-oxide finish on these taps retains lubricants to improve the taps' wear resistance and chip flow. Black-oxide taps should only be used on ferrous metals. These taps are made from powdered metal, which has a uniform microstructure and grain distribution that gives the material a similar strength as carbide. Powdered-metal taps are tougher and less likely to break than cobalt and high-speed steel taps.
