Pulley taps create internal threads in set-screw holes on pulley assemblies. They have a long shank for accessing hard-to-reach holes that a standard tap could not reach. Their shank diameter is roughly equal to their thread diameter. The shank acts as an alignment guide as the tap reaches through the pulley hub to access the holes.
