Dial Test Indicators & Sets

Dial test indicators, also called lever-style test indicators, lever-style dial test indicators, lever-arm test indicators, finger indicators, or simply test indicators, use a hinged lever rather than an up-and-down plunger to measure displacement. The contact point on the lever is placed against the surface of the workpiece or feature being measured. The measurement is then amplified onto the dial face. They are commonly used to reach areas that are otherwise inaccessible to dial drop indicators, such as in narrow grooves and small bores. Dial test indicators have little drift for higher repeatability and stability in measurements. They typically have higher accuracy than dial drop indicators over a small range. They are commonly mounted to a holder or other fixture with a dovetail mount for stability.
Dial Test Indicators - Horizontal & Tilted-Face Styles
Horizontal dial test indicators are built with the dial positioned on the side of the gauge body facing out. They are commonly used in applications where the indicator will not rotate. When the application does involve rotation, such as use on a machine spindle, operators may choose a model with a half-shaded dial face to facilitate mirror readings.

Dial Test Indicators - Swivel-Head Style
These dial test indicators have a swivel head that allows operators to adjust the gauge orientation 90° from horizontal to vertical. The swivel head design makes these suitable for multiple applications.

Dial Test Indicators - Vertical Style
Vertical dial indicators are built with the dial positioned on top of the body of the indicator so it can be read from above. This vertical positioning ensures the indicator can be read in any position. They are commonly used to find the centerline on a workpiece on a milling machine or other applications where the indicator will rotate such that a horizontal side reading is difficult or not possible.
