Vernier height gauges have a rule-style graduated beam that extends from a solid base along which a carriage with a scriber or contact point on the end travels. These gauges are built with a main scale and Vernier scale that provides greater resolution of the measured value. Dial height gauges operate on similar mechanical principles with a graduated dial face on which the measurement is displayed. These gauges are commonly used for height and depth measurements and for scribing lines in layout applications.
