Counterbores with Built-In Pilots
Available157 products
Counterbores with built-in pilots (sometimes called solid pilot counterbores) are made from one piece of metal, which means the pilot cannot be removed. They can be used with one size of hole to create a flat-bottomed cavity at the top of the hole so that a bolt, nut, or other part is hidden beneath or sits flush with the top of the hole when installed into it. The pilot keeps the counterbore centered in the hole to ensure a level seat. Counterbores (sometimes called spotfacers) are typically used in metalworking tasks.
High-Speed Steel Counterbores with Built-In Pilots
High-speed steel counterbores are the most common choice for creating a flat-bottomed cavity at the top of the hole so that a bolt, nut, or other part is hidden beneath or sits flush with the top of the hole when installed into it. High-speed steel is less brittle than cobalt and can better withstand vibration and chattering. Sometimes known as solid pilot counterbores, these counterbores have a built-in pilot that cannot be removed and which keeps the counterbore centered in the hole to ensure a level seat.

Cobalt Steel Counterbores with Built-In Pilots
Cobalt steel counterbores provide more wear resistance at high speeds than high-speed steel counterbores and are suitable for machining hard materials. They make a flat-bottomed cavity at the top of an existing hole so that a bolt, nut, or other part is hidden beneath or sits flush with the top of the hole when installed into it. Also called solid pilot counterbores, these counterbores have a pilot that keeps the counterbore centered in the hole to ensure a level seat. The pilot is built-in and cannot be removed.
