Live centers have a point that rotates with the workpiece as it turns in the lathe to minimize friction between the center and the workpiece during high-speed and high-precision turning applications. Also called revolving centers, they are used when the workpiece needs support at both ends to keep it accurately centered between a lathe's headstock and tailstock to ensure concentric machining. The 60-degree point angle balances contact area with strength to resist deflection and vibration during machining. The ground and hardened point and body provide high durability and accuracy. The Morse-tapered end mounts to the lathe.
Standard-Point Live Centers
Standard-point live centers have two rows of ball bearings that provide smooth turning of heavy workpieces in CNC and manual turning applications. Thrust bearings absorb axial force to extend center life.

Spring-Loaded Standard-Point Live Centers
Spring-loaded standard-point live centers move axially (in line with the workpiece) to ensure the center is securely seated in the workpiece. A groove is machined into the shaft to ensure that the point doesn't retract too far into the body. Long needle bearings support and turn with the point to increase stability and provide long life.

Bull Head Live Centers
Bull head live centers have a blunt tapered head to fit into the center of pipes, tubes, and other parts that have large and extra-large center holes. Double rows of angular bearings provide high strength, support axial loads, and provide good thrust. The bull head design is sized 1/8" over nominal to ensure centers are compatible with a range of part sizes and to support blind holes.
