Reflector (R) lamps have a smooth, mirror-like lining that increases light output. They diffuse light through a slightly curved lens that softens the lighting effect and minimizes shadows. These R light bulbs are commonly used for general lighting.

Bulged reflector (BR) lamps have a smooth, mirror-like lining plus a reflector in the neck to supply more light output than R lamps. The neck reflector redirects additional light rays from the base through the top of the bulb. These BR light bulbs diffuse light through a slightly curved lens that softens the lighting effect and minimizes shadows. They produce a wide beam angle with a broad light pattern for general and floodlighting applications, especially in corridors, stairwells, and large common areas.

Parabolic aluminized reflector (PAR) lamps have a bowl-shaped aluminum lining that reflects light in a narrower beam than R and BR lamps. They are commonly used in accent lighting applications ranging from interior track and stage lights to outdoor post- or fascia-mounted fixtures that illuminate walkways, driveways, flagpoles, signs, and building façades.

Multifaceted reflector (MR) lamps are lined with rippled reflectors that concentrate light into a focused beam for highlighting and spotlighting nearby objects and surfaces. These compact light bulbs fit into tighter spaces and produce a narrower light beam than other reflector lamps except AR lamps. They are commonly used in display cases, small task lights, and elevator lights where the bulb will be concealed.

Aluminum-faceted reflector (AR) lamps use their aluminized reflector to deliver an even narrower light beam than MR lamps. They provide a tight focus to highlight objects in retail displays and to spotlight areas for architectural lighting designs.

Reflector heat lamps produce a wide light beam that also emits radiant heat for warming applications. They heat bathrooms, prevent pipes and equipment from freezing, keep food warm in restaurants and food service areas, and warm animal pens.
