Hazard Classification

Safety-rated lights carry class and division ratings as defined by National Electrical Code (NEC) standards for use in areas with specific hazards. Class I and II lights also carry group ratings (listed on the product page) designating use in locations with specific types of gas, vapor, or dust.

Class I Div. 1 is rated for hazardous locations where flammable gases or vapors are present during normal operations. Class I hazards are commonly found in petroleum refineries, fuel dispensaries, sewage treatment plants, and processes using chemicals, paints, coatings, or sealants.
Class I Div. 2 is rated for hazardous locations where flammable gases or vapors are normally confined or not present in ignitable concentrations. Class I hazards are commonly found in petroleum refineries, fuel dispensaries, sewage treatment plants, and processes using chemicals, paints, coatings, or sealants.
Class II Div. 1 is rated for hazardous locations where combustible dusts are present during normal operations. Class II hazards are commonly found in pharmaceutical factories, coal-handling plants, grain elevators, and plants processing flour, feed, or powder.
Class III Div. 1 is rated for hazardous locations where ignitable fibers or flyings are present during normal operations. Class III hazards are commonly found in textile mills, lumber mills, and other plants with airborne fibers or sawdust.
Class III Div. 2 is rated for hazardous locations where ignitable fibers or flyings are normally confined or not present in ignitable concentrations. Class III hazards are commonly found in textile mills, lumber mills, and other plants with airborne fibers or sawdust.

Max. Brightness Range

Maximum brightness is the total amount of light output as measured in lumens (lm) at the highest setting. The higher the lumens, the brighter the light.

Body Material

Body material describes the base material excluding any grip or coating. Metal bodies dissipate heat for extended use without burnout. They won't melt like plastic, but they conduct electricity, are heavier, and are more likely to dent if they are dropped. Plastic bodies insulate against heat, so they won't become too hot to hold in high-temperature environments. They won't conduct electricity like metal and are more resistant to impacts, scratches, chemicals, and water.

Intrinsically safe (IS) flashlights regulate their energy production to prevent sparking that could ignite potentially explosive atmospheres. They meet specific UL or IEC standards for intrinsic safety.

IP Rating

IP (Ingress Protection) rating grades a product's ability to keep out dust and water. The first digit is the degree of protection from dust or solid objects. The second digit is the degree of protection from water. An X instead of a digit indicates no assigned protection rating. The higher the value of each digit, the greater the protection.

IPX4 withstands water splashes from any direction.
IPX7 withstands immersion in water for up to 30 minutes to a depth of 1m.
IP67 is dust-tight and withstands immersion in water for up to 30 minutes to a depth of 1m.
IP68 is dust-tight and withstands immersion in water for longer than 30 minutes to a depth of 1m or more as specified by the manufacturer.

Drop Rating

Drop rating specifies the height from which the light could fall and resist damage upon impact. These impact resistance ratings are determined by drop tests onto concrete surfaces.
