Duct-Mount Humidifiers
Duct-mount humidifiers add moisture to indoor air to ease breathing, make the space feel warmer, minimize static shocks, and help prevent wood surfaces and furniture from drying out. Also known as whole-house humidifiers, these units install between the supply and return air ducts in an HVAC system to humidify all the rooms connected to the system. They are ideal for office buildings, warehouses, homes, and other indoor spaces that require continual humidification. These units connect to the building's water supply, so users do not need to manually refill them with water.
Bypass Humidifiers
Bypass humidifiers reuse their water supply, so they use less water than fan-powered humidifiers. Warm air from a building's furnace passes over the humidifiers' water tray, and the air absorbs the water. The HVAC system then circulates the humidified air into the surrounding area. These units can be installed in the supply or return ducts of the HVAC system, and they require both the furnace and HVAC system to be on in order to operate. Bypass duct-mount humidifiers do not have a fan or fan motor.

Steam Humidifiers
Steam humidifiers use less water to humidify the air than fan-powered humidifiers and bypass humidifiers. They are also easier to maintain than fan-powered humidifiers and bypass humidifiers because they don't require humidifier pad changes or routine cleaning. These humidifiers use electrodes to create steam and add moisture to air that is moving through the HVAC system. The HVAC system circulates the humidified air into the surrounding area. Steam dehumidifiers require the HVAC system to be running, but they do not require the building's furnace to be running.
