This describes different types of lockset functions and indicates whether the lockset secures from the inside and/or outside of the door or has no locking mechanism. Many ANSI lockset types fall under the same general lockset function.

Passage Paddle Locksets do not lock on either side, but rather simply allow for egress of the doorway.
Privacy Paddle Locksets allow users to lock or unlock the door from the inside with a push-button, thumb-turn, or similar mechanism. The door quickly unlocks when the inside handle is operated.
Storeroom Paddle Locksets unlock with a key and re-lock when the key is removed to prevent unauthorized access. They do not have a keyway on the inside of the door, but can be locked from the outside.
Office Paddle Locksets have a key-turn hole on the outside and a locking mechanism like a push-button or thumb-turn on the inside. If the door is unlocked, users can operate the door form either side.
Classroom Paddle Locksets have a keyhole on the outside of the door with a lever on the inside. They allow users to lock the door from the outside while allowing the door to freely open from the inside.
Classroom Security Paddle Locksets lock from either side of the door with a key. When not locked, the door opens from either side.
