These anchors install into plaster or drywall surfaces and do not require a stud to be secured. Depending on the type, they can either act as an interface between a screw and the mounting surface or be inserted through the surface and grip it from behind as they are tightened.
Conical Plug Anchors
Conical plug anchors install into walls or ceilings and secure a screw into place. They feature a cone-shaped body that tapers toward their tip, making installation easier. Once inserted into the mounting surface, a screw is driven into its opening and forces the wings of the anchor to expand and secure it in place.

Hammer-In Plug Anchors

They feature a tip that creates a pilot hole as it drives, eliminating the need for a separate pilot hole.
