Vibration sensors attach to machinery and measure the vibration frequency, intensity, and direction of its movement to diagnose issues like imbalance or bearing failures. When conditions exceed preset levels, these sensors open or close the switch contact or transmit the information to a control center. They can be set to shut down a motor when vibration reaches critical levels or alert that maintenance is needed. They are commonly used on cooling towers and compressors.
