Walnut shell polishing media is used in a centrifugal magnetic finisher to dry process and polish soft, nonferrous metals such as copper, brass, bronze, and aluminum. Walnut shells are a soft abrasive that's generally used as a final polishing step after workpieces have been smoothed using other media.
