Cutter dressers are handheld tools used to true and dress grinding wheels when they're worn or misshapen. Truing a wheel removes very thin layers of abrasive to expose clean abrasive to refresh the cutting edge and remove grooves in the wheel face caused by routine grinding or sharpening. Cutter dressers are handheld tools used when high precision truing is not required.

Cutter dressers resurface and expose fresh abrasive on grinding wheels. The cutter has a series of rotating discs mounted to a handle. It's slowly introduced to the grinding wheel face as the cutter is moved side to side to create a flat, even surface.
