Lapping compounds create flat surfaces in high-precision machining applications. Compound is applied between plates that rotate in opposing directions until the compound breaks down when surfaces are flat.

Oil-Soluble Clover Lapping Compounds

Oil-Soluble Clover Lapping Compounds
Oil-soluble Clover lapping compounds are made of silicon carbide abrasive in an oil base for lapping surfaces where parts are prone to rusting. Oil-based lapping compounds are used on parts that aren't sensitive to solvents required to clean surfaces after lapping. They also remain moist longer than water-based compounds and are less likely to cause parts to rust.

Coarse

Coarse removes material quickly for the initial smoothing pass. Coarse Clover grades are G, F, and E (80 to 120 grit).

Medium

Medium provides controlled metal removal. Medium Clover grades are NC and D (150 to 180 grit).

Medium Fine

Medium Fine is used for cylinder lapping. Medium-fine Clover grades include C and B (220 to 240 grit).

Fine

Fine is used for finishing and valve lapping, as well as use on gauges, bearings, and dies. Fine Clover grades include A and 1A (280 to 320 grit).
