Buffing and polishing compounds are applied to buffing wheels to remove surface contaminants and imperfections. They clean, buff, polish, and finish a variety of materials, including metal, fiberglass, plastic, and wood. Compounds are in bar form and applied to the wheel by lightly pressing the bar to the rotating wheel. Compounds are color coded so different grits can be easily distinguished from each other.

Intermediate Polishing Compounds for Soft Metals
Intermediate polishing compounds for soft metals (such as brass and aluminum) are made from a fine, microcrystalline quartz to remove scratches and other surface imperfections. Sometimes called Tripoli, this compound is brown to distinguish it from other compounds.
